I have a huge mulberry in the front yard with many large limbs than need constant pruning. Men have earned spurs working on this tree. to its credit, the mulberry leaf is a favorite of desert tortoises who love to eat the leaves when they can get them. One limb the size of an adult waist was too near the house and had to be removed. It turned out to be hollow! Where the leader joined the trunk that was hollow too. A cut was slanted from the side however and left open. The angle was such it would not much drain rain into the inside. Things stood thus over a year and more, but that fall a colony of bees took up residence. We used to watch them slant and dart in the morning sun. Little kids got up close to see their coming and goings, always happy. In those years I began writing every at 3 A.M. The bees were like thoughts that would fill the morning hours. I am since bereft of both bees and thoughts, the ability to express them, the story of this tale.
